In the late 1980s, Kubrick became fascinated with artificial intelligence and began developing a film about a sentient computer system. The project evolved into what would eventually become A.I. Artificial Intelligence, completed by Spielberg after Kubrick's death.
The Holocaust Film
Kubrick spent nearly a decade researching a Holocaust film titled Aryan Papers, based on the novel Wartime Lies. He abandoned it after learning Spielberg was making Schindler's List, declaring "That's the film I wanted to make."

Declassified documents reveal Kubrick was briefly investigated by the CIA in the 1960s due to his extensive research for Dr. Strangelove. Some believe he maintained contacts in intelligence circles that informed his later paranoid thrillers.
